Kaspersky® Anti-Virus for Linux Workstations and Kaspersky® Anti-Virus for Linux/FreeBSD/OpenBSD File Servers scans file systems of workstations and file servers for viruses.

Reliable real-time protection

Kaspersky® Anti-Virus scans data in real time. It intercepts files that are being accessed and scans them. Depending on scan results, files can be disinfected, deleted or moved to the quarantine folder for further analysis.

Scanning folders on schedule

A workstation’s or server’s file system can be scanned for viruses on schedule (using the cron program) or on demand (from the command line). Instead of scanning the entire file system, the administrator can select individual folders or objects, which greatly reduces system load.

Setting on-demand scan parameters

Protection against potentially dangerous programs Kaspersky® Anti-Virus allows protecting the mail server not only against malicious software, but also against potentially dangerous software, such as adware, automatic dialing programs that connect the user’s computer to commercial internet sites, hacking programs or joke programs. The ability to detect riskware is supported by the extended and super secure anti-virus databases.

Additional scanning features

The iChecker technology helps optimize the performance of Kaspersky® Anti-Virus. It eliminates the need to scan files every time they are accessed by comparing them, when possible, with existing file data stored in a dedicated database. Provided that a file’s current status completely matches its description in the database, the file is considered unchanged and is not scanned for viruses.

To reduce the load the administrator can also limit the number of objects to be scanned in the background during file system scans.

Backup storage and quarantine

All infected, suspicious and damaged objects found in the server’s file system can be placed in a quarantine folder, where they can be processed further (disinfected etc.). The range of objects that can be placed in quarantine includes password protected files, previously infected files which have been cured, and files the scanning of which resulted in an error.

A backup storage can be created to save copies of infected objects before they are deleted from the file system. This makes it possible to restore files that could not be completely disinfected.

Event logs and automatic notification

Kaspersky® Anti-Virus allows administrators to define which details of system performance will be reflected in event reports. A list of viruses detected can be created to facilitate virus activity analysis. When a suspicious or infected file is detected, notification with a full description of the malicious code can be sent to the system administrator. The administrator can modify the program’s notification templates.

Centralized installation and management

Kaspersky® Anti-Virus for Linux Workstations and Linux/FreeBSD/OpenBSD File Servers are fully integrated with the Webmin administration system. System administrators can use the Webmin module’s convenient interface to remotely configure and manage the anti-virus protection, as well as control it from the web browser. In addition, Webmin allows the administrator to configure user rights related to using the program.

Automatic updates

The KeepUp2Date module downloads the latest anti-virus database and program component updates from dedicated Kaspersky Lab or local servers. Updates are downloaded on demand or automatically on schedule. The administrator can select the type of database to be used: standard, extended or super secure. Database types can be selected separately for each component of the solution.

Support for checking database integrity and usability helps significantly reduce network traffic.

Kaspersky Lab releases antivirus database updates on an hourly basis.

Round the clock technical support

Kaspersky Lab offers users round-the-clock technical support by telephone and email.
Kaspersky Lab expert personnel continually monitor the virus situation across the globe. If a customer forwards a suspicious object or an object infected by a previously unknown virus to Kaspersky Labs, the company releases either an exclusive treatment module or confirmation that the object is harmless within 24 hours.
